Panagia Tinou or Lady of Tinos is definitely the most impressive church on the island and one of the most famous of Cycladic complex. The full name of this attraction is Holy Church of Panagia Evangelistria. According to the legend a nun named St. Pelagia had a vision of Virgin Mary, during which a spot was revealed where an icon was buried. After that excavation began and on January 30^th 1823 the icon was discovered. Due to that fact, the decision to build a church here was taken. Raw materials in order to construct this beautiful church, mostly marble, had to be imported from Delos Island. The project had many financial difficulties but with help of local people, it was completed in 1880. The architect of the church, Efstratios Emmanuel Kalonaris, follows the Renaissance style.

Today Panagia Tinou is known for Christian pilgrimage in Greece. Thousands of people from Greece and abroad visit it every year, as it is known as miracle worker. Therefore you should not miss it. Panagia Tinou is located in the main town. It is easy to find using maps. It you are not staying in the capital of Tinos, you must visit it as well.
